Andrew Wommack

Andrew Wommack’s life and ministry have been a testament to God’s transformative power. Born again at just eight years old, Andrew grew up avoiding rebellion but fell into the trap of legalism, believing that his own righteousness could bring him closer to God. Everything changed on March 23, 1968, when Andrew experienced a profound encounter with God’s love. Expecting God’s wrath for his self-righteousness, he was overwhelmed instead by God’s unconditional love. “When I was at my worst, God’s love was the strongest,” Andrew recalls. This moment transformed his view of God and set him on a mission to help others see God in the same way.

Shortly after this life-changing experience, Andrew was drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam. Despite the danger and hardship, his faith grew stronger as he spent time grounded in God’s Word. Upon returning to the United States, Andrew embraced his calling to teach the Gospel. In 1972, he married Jamie, and together they began leading Bible studies, pastoring small churches, and raising their two sons, Joshua and Jonathan Peter.

Andrew’s ministry took a significant step in 1976 when he aired his first Gospel Truth radio program on a small country station in Childress, Texas. By 1980, he and Jamie had moved their ministry to Colorado Springs, where their vision became clearer: to teach the truth of the Gospel with a special emphasis on God’s unconditional love and the balance of grace and faith. As their ministry expanded, they reached people through speaking engagements, radio broadcasts, and free audio cassette tapes for those unable to afford them.

In the early 1990s, God impressed upon Andrew the importance of raising up faithful men and women to carry on the Gospel. Inspired by 2 Timothy 2:2, Andrew believed that practical, hands-on training combined with Bible instruction would prepare future leaders. In 1994, Charis Bible College opened its doors, equipping students to fulfill God’s calling in their lives. The impact of Charis graduates multiplied the reach of Andrew’s ministry, taking his teachings worldwide.

God continued to expand Andrew’s vision, leading him to television in the late 1990s. He launched the Gospel Truth TV program, which now has a potential global audience of over 5 billion people. This step caused exponential growth in the ministry, prompting the need for new facilities. In 2002, Andrew repented of limiting God through small thinking and began enlarging his vision. That same year, the ministry purchased a 110,000-square-foot facility to accommodate its growing operations.

In 2009, the ministry acquired a 157-acre property in Woodland Park, Colorado, which became known as The Sanctuary. This allowed Andrew to design and build facilities tailored to the needs of Charis and Andrew Wommack Ministries (AWM). In 2014, The Barn opened as the primary facility for Charis, and in 2017, AWM moved into a newly acquired and renovated 60,000-square-foot building adjacent to The Sanctuary.

As the ministry expanded, it developed a strong presence online and through social media, television networks, and global events. In 2018, during Andrew’s fiftieth year in ministry, the construction of The Auditorium was completed. This facility serves as Charis’s administrative center and hosts AWM and Charis events. With both branches of the ministry now headquartered in Woodland Park, the effectiveness of their outreach has grown significantly.

Today, Andrew Wommack Ministries continues to progress like never before, fulfilling the vision God gave Andrew to go as far and as deep with the Gospel as possible. Through Charis graduates, global broadcasts, and cutting-edge media platforms, Andrew remains committed to sharing God’s unconditional love and inspiring others to live in the balance of grace and faith.
