Oswald J. Smith

Oswald Jeffery Smith was a Canadian pastor, evangelist, missionary, author and hymn writer born in 1889. He had a varied career including selling Bibles, pastoring churches in Canada and the U.S., and starting revivals. In 1915 he became associate pastor of Dale Presbyterian Church in Toronto, and in 1921 became pastor of the merged Parkdale Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He raised over $14 million for foreign missions, more than any other pastor in history. He remained pastor of People’s Church in Toronto until 1959 and had a significant influence and legacy through his preaching, writing and fundraising for missions.
